ICLEI holds its next World Congress in Edmonton, Canada - June 2009

From 14 to 18 June 2009, the City of Edmonton, Canada will host the ICLEI World Congress 2009.

The five-day event will be bring together over 700 delegates from local and national  governments, international agencies, academic institutions, civil society and the business community. Participants are expected from at least 60 countries worldwide.

At the ICLEI World Congress, numerous sessions, seminars, workshops and events will address a broad range of sustainable development and urban issues. Focused on concrete action and measurable results, the ICLEI World Congress will provide local government participants with the tools, mechanisms, and practical support necessary to systematically implement local action plans; these tools will assist cities to overcome barriers to sustainability and to create sustainable communities.

Furthermore, the ICLEI World Congress will provide a platform for interaction between ICLEI Member local governments and other participants from United Nations agencies, governments, financing institutions, business, NGOs and other partners working towards achieving local sustainability.

The United Cities and Local Government of Africa (UCLGA) therefore encourages its interested members to participate.
